We are 2 Iowans who will be flying far and wide this summer. You will learn soon why we are
"The Flyin' HawaiIowans." For now, it's a fun name, eh? Stay tuned...
I look forward to flying my
5th (!!!!!) Air Race Classic, and yes, each race merits an exclamation point. It is for now my
"Summer Camp for Pilots" event that I look forward to each year.
I've also settled into a routine of inviting along a new racer each year, and this year I have found my 2nd Iowan to join the party -
Kata McCarville from Fayette IA. She was ready to go last year, but she had not yet wrapped up her Private Pilot's license yet. Now she's got her private ticket and well on her way to her instrument rating. She's something of a "rocker," but I'll let her explain that one and introduce herself.
My '78 Cardinal Classic will be back for the ride too...with a "near-zero" time engine for 2012! Yes, it's engine overhaul time, and I'm anxiously waiting for our factory rebuilt exchange engine to arrive. The folks at Lycoming are building it now, and we're looking for a mid-March delivery. So the down-time will be minimal, as they exchange out the engine and do lots of other stuff under the cowling. We'll be doing lots of flying to get it thru the break-in period before flying to Lake Havasu.
Let the planning begin...
